It’s the end of summer, and we’re sending our scholars back to school! This year, the Red Tab Scholars program extended their awards to a new part of the globe where LS&Co. employees and their families reside – Vietnam. Scholarships were granted to the children of several factory workers at our Ninh Binh facility.
Globally, the Red Tab Scholars awarded 25 new scholarships and renewed a robust 114, to students working towards two and four-year degrees at colleges, universities and vocational schools.
Mark, a recent graduate from the Philippines (pictured above with his classmates), expressed his gratitude towards the foundation in helping him complete his degree:
“I personally didn’t think that I could continue college because of financial problems; your foundation gives me hope and strength to persevere in obtaining a college degree.”
Since 2008, over 430 students from 17 different countries have been awarded 1.4 M USD in scholarships with the help of generous donations from LS&Co. employees, retirees, and shareholders. At the Red Tab Foundation we believe in educational advancement for dependents of LS&Co. employees throughout the world. It is through these scholarships that many families’ dreams are realized.
Ceslyn, a Red Tab Scholar recently wrote to the foundation: “I have graduated from my course in Civil Engineering. I really want to thank you; your financial help is a great relief for our family, and I am now one step closer to my dreams and goals.”
The application period is closed for the 2013-2014 school year, but will open up again next spring.
Want to contribute to the success of these scholars? Make a donation here. Thank you for making education an opportunity for those in need.

On an unusually warm and extraordinarily beautiful day in San Francisco, over 100 LS&Co. employees, family, and friends competed in the Run for Red Tab in Golden Gate Park.
In the weeks leading up to the race on April 21st, many teams were formed and departments could feel the competition rising in San Francisco. Spirit was felt all around the plaza; the Dockers team held a bake sale, and team captains were great cheerleaders in encouraging their departments to sign up. The Wholesale Marketing & Strategy team brought in $4.1K, Ecommerce raised $3.4K, and the Jean Team came in a close third with $3K. Melissa DiRienzo, Kristin Venema, and Tomas Schmidt were the top three individual fundraisers, raising over $4,000 between them. Jen Sey was the executive sponsor, and with her family in tow, helped get the runners excited right before the race started.
Thank you to the runners, fundraisers, and to all those who donated to this year’s Run for Red Tab San Francisco. San Francisco did a great job fundraising – $21,333 has been raised to date, with donations still rolling in. Help them get to their goal of $35,000 by donating here. All the funds raised go directly to the Red Tab Foundation, LS&Co.’s unique nonprofit that helps employees and retirees overcome unexpected financial emergencies.

It’s time to pull out your running and walking shoes for the 5th annual Run for Red Tab San Francisco. Gather your friends, coworkers, dogs, and kids. On Sunday April 21st, we’re challenging you to a 5k or 1Mile run/walk, with all the funds you raise going directly to the Red Tab Foundation.
This is the fifth Run for Red Tab San Francisco, and will be the kick off for the events globally. Last year alone, Run For Red Tab events brought in a total of $35,000 around the world; $21K raised in San Francisco, over $5K from participants in Brussels, and $10K from employees in South Africa. We are inspired by these results, and are challenging San Francisco participants to help raise $35,000 for the April 21st race.
All Run for Red Tab events are employee led and organized by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the cause; truly embodying the idea of employees helping employees.
HOW can we raise $35,000? CLICK HERE to sign up for the race or get involved with one of the below options:
1. Register for the race. All registration fees are covered by LS&Co., which means more money can go directly to RTF aid recipients.
2. Fundraise. Want to help raise money but don’t want to run? Set up your personal fundraising page.
3. Form a team with your department! A little inter-department competition never hurt anyone.
4. OR, support the efforts in San Francisco without tying a shoelace or sending an email. Sponsor a participant directly.

The Red Tab Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for dependents of LS&Co. employees for the 2013-2014 school year.
The application period for 2013 Red Tab Scholars program begins today, March 4th, and concludes on April 26th.
Red Tab Scholars is a need-based program that awards up to $1,500 USD per year to the dependents of LS&Co. employees around the world. Award determination is based on financial need (75 percent) and scholastic merit (25 percent). Scholarships can be used for post-secondary education at colleges, universities and vocational schools.
“I encourage employees and their children to look into this great opportunity”, Chip Bergh stated. “I am so impressed with the Red Tab Scholars program which truly exemplifies LS&Co.’s values of empathy and integrity, providing opportunity for scholastic achievement for those who might find it difficult to meet tuition requirements or buy books.”
Since it’s induction in 2008, over 400 students from 16 different countries have been awarded 1.3M USD in scholarships due to generous donations from Bob and Colleen Haas along with LS&Co. employees, retirees, and shareholders.
Vikas Kumar, a retiree of our Bangalore office recently expressed his gratitude after his son Goutham was awarded the scholarship for his third year in school:
“Thank you for the renewal of Goutham’s Scholarship. I can proudly say that the Red Tab Foundation is doing a noble gesture in supporting the education of the dependents of our employees. I always feel that supporting one’s education is the best possible gift you can give, and this will be remembered forever”.
